Aereo

For a fee, streaming local TV

This is not in our area yet,  it is being tested in court in the NYC area.

If they win the court case,  it shouldn't take long to get here.

Currently subscribers need an Apple mobile device or a Roku to watch the streaming video on TV

The term "4G" or "fourth generation," which has become a popular advertising and marketing feature, means something different to many telecommunications engineers.

Hot spots to go

"... You could get a broadband cellular hot spot, like the MiFi, a tiny, self-powered base station that creates a Wi-Fi bubble from your pocket or purse. Nearby laptops, iPads and iPod Touches can get online, wherever you happen to be.
These cellular hot spots are fantastic companions on long car rides, offsite meetings, movie shoots on location, trade show booths, hotel rooms, beaches, airplanes stuck on runways and anywhere else where Wi-Fi is costly or nonexistent.
Unfortunately, the hot spots from Verizon or AT&T cost at least $50 a month.

As of this week, there’s a new option from NetZero. It may not change the game, but it does change some of the rules. "

SO IF YOU WANT TO CANCEL YOUR CABLE/HBO AND GET A ROKU BOX, here’s one for a mere $50.99. For added mischief, when you cancel cable, you can tell the company that it’s because of Bill Maher . . . .
But it goes beyond Maher. Give your money to people you like. Don’t give it to the people you don’t. Don’t make that a short-term boycott, make it a long-term strategy.
Meanwhile, reader Allen Covert writes:
I dropped all HBO channels from my satellite package yesterday. It took five minutes on the phone. My dvd player came with netflix and amazon so I can see almost any movie I want when I want.
Yes, there are all kinds of gadgets that support this.

Accessing 4G Buzz with Google Reader

Once I realized how easy it was to follow blogs using an RSS reader,  I've never turned back and it has saved me tons of time.

If you don't already use an RSS reader but would like to see how it works,  go to

Google Reader  (highlighted items are links - if you click on them the take you to the link), hit the subscribe button and paste millcreek4gbuzz.blogspot.com into the text box.

When you go to the reader, if there is no new activity on (any of your subscriptions) you see that immediately and can move on.  As posts occur,  you will get a number next to the subscription in the left pane and a preview of the post in the right pane.  Try it, you'll like it!   If you want a very active blog to follow,  try http://www.powerlineblog.com/ or pjmedia.com/instapundit in addition to 4GBuzz.

Non 4G question : pressure washing needed

We need someone to pressure wash our house.  It needs to be someone who is reliable and won't rip us off.

Accessing TV on 4G

A review of Roku  XD (pronounced “Row Koo”)  on CNET .

Comparison with Boxee .

Some background from Wiki.

Some time back (2004?)  I was at a Microsoft Roadmap conference in Alpharetta.   I asked them "what are you plans for IP-TV?".   The answer "What's IP-TV"?   Well, it is now arriving, as you can see for yourself.

Free TV and Movies on Line

Some background from Clark Howard.

My thought is to get a 4G smartphone hotspot with unlimited data and let that serve an on line tv setup.

Anyone doing that yet?   We are close.

A day late and a dollar short

A one day offer for a free 4-G smart phone,  yesterday.   But the buzz is definitely on.

Has Apple become Big Brother?

I put up a blog for 4G in our neighborhood.  Apparently nobody has arrived,  Apple has everyone stuck in 3G.  Has Apple become the big brother that they depicted themselves fighting?

The silence is deafening.

Samsung Galaxy Attain 4G (MetroPCS)

Given our limited budget,  I'm always looking for ways to shave off a few bucks a month on anything.

Currently it is costing me roughly $35 per month for a Verizon line with friends and family plus shared minutes enough to prevent any additional minute charges, and this phone also connects to our house phones through a bluetooth device called XLINK.  I add a magic jack line so that I can go on hold with annoying customer services holds such as comcast.

In addition,  Joanna does a great job of keeping the comcast ISP service in check,  last 12 months at $40.23 for basic TV plus cable internet -  we just got bumped to sixty something with Joanna pushing them back down to $47.23.

I would so love to get rid of comcast entirely.   With a 4G phone with a wifi hotspot,  I could drop the TV and go to IP-TV of some sort and use the phone's hotspot for our internet at home.

I was thinking MetroPCS and this phone.

Which then led me to create this blog so I can check with all my fine neighbors!

Starting the 4G Buzz in Mill Creek

4G is coming into full bloom and the choices are staggering.

They say all politics are local and I think the same thing is true in buying 4G and/or smartphones and/or home internet service and/or personal wifi hotspots etc.

The blog will be read only for visitors and read/post for registered residents of our community.  Topics will be limited to 4G/Smartphone/WiFi/Home Internet choices, reviews, performance, gripes, etc. specific to our location.   Additional topics can be blog tutorials, RSS settings etc. to help get the most out of our collective effort on this blog.  I plan to moderate the blog as required depending on the overall quality of posts.
